Jack & David Cobb 9-13-14MoveToAmend.org is all about ending the enormous, democracy-killing influence of big money in our politics and the insane bestowing of human rights on inanimate corporations. Founder David Cobb is on a barnstorming tour of America, giving presentations to inform and motivate Americans into action. I was honored to present at the Naperville, IL barnstorming event with David and it was a first rate session. Many thanks to Kaye Gamble, Virginia Wisdom and all who did the hard work to organize and make it possible to present the truth.

The Coalition to Restore Democracy held a gathering on June 28, 2014 and Mike Papantonio was the guest speaker (check out the picture 1/3 of the way down the Pix page). I was honored to set the stage for the day and to introduce Mike. You can watch Mike here.

OFA has been doing wonderful work on so many issues. Perhaps the most important of them is the Affordable Care Act (AFA). It was derisively labeled “Obamacare” by hair-on-fire Republicans in order to defeat it, yet that moniker has become widely known and embraced as a good thing for Americans. And a celebration was in order.

Jon CarterJon Carter, Executive Director of Chicago OFA, led the proceedings. The party was held on the President’s birthday for all the people who have worked so hard on this issue. He thanked everyone for their determination and told them how significant their contributions had been. Then it was time for the first guest speaker.

Austan Goolsbee

Austan Goolsbee is the Robert P. Gwinn Professor of Economics. University of Chicago, Booth School of Business. He previously served in Washington as the Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers and a member of the President Obama’s cabinet. He has a remarkable ability to speak two languages at once – economics and plain English – making complex issues easy to understand. He talked about the impact the Affordable Care Act is already having and how significant it will be both for Americans and for America.

IMG_2241BEST PART: Then it was time for Congresswoman Jan Schakowski (IL 9th Congressional District). As you can see from the picture she is a short person, but she packs a punch. She is an impassioned, clear and focused advocate of issues that are important to all Americans and she said that passage of the Affordable Care Act was the most significant moment of her life. That’s how much she cares about We The People. I’m proud that she is my representative.

IMG_2209I shared the stage tonight with Mike Papantonio of Ring of Fire Radio. We presented at a meeting sponsored by the Coalition to Restore Democracy. He is so brilliantly clear about the danger we face, the injustice that is all around and what we have to do to make this the America that 99% of us want it to be.

There has never been a better time for you to get up and get active, for example:

  1. Sign the MoveToAmed.org petition. Here’s text of the petition itself.
  2. Vote for reform candidates on November 4
  3. Contribute to my blog with your comments
  4. Attend a rally in your town
  5. Contribute to the Mayday PAC – yes, I know it’s crazy to have to support a Super PAC in order to eliminate Super PAC’s.
  6. Check out Ring of Fire Radio – learn from the website and listen to the programs.

Great session of Money, Politics & Democracy at NorthWest Suburban Organizing For America. These folks especially appreciated the focus – You Aren’t Getting What You Want. That is true whether you’re a righty, a lefty or someplace in the middle. Unless, of course, you’re a billionaire.
