Reading time – 37 seconds . . .
I’m reading David McCullough’s biography of Harry Truman and am struck by a comment in a letter from young Harry to his then-intended, Bess Wallace, who would later become the First Lady. In his letter he wrote, “I am by religion like everything else. I think there’s more in acting than in talking.” Perhaps that’s another way to say that actions speak louder than words. Okay, then lets look at some actions and some concurrent words and then consider an appropriate label.
We are blessed with a very loud swarm of Republicanistas, who thump Bibles and tell us that this is a Christian nation, that we should live according to the Bible, all this with the implication that they themselves are good Christians. Those are the words. The actions tell a different story.
Because even as they proclaim their Jesus-ness they are at the same time cutting food aid to poor children and they stand in the way of medical care for all of our poor. They subvert the rights of the poor and our minorities, barring their way to the voting booth. They blockade buses of refugee children and spew their hate at them. They decide categorically that all abortions are wrong and enforce their views by murdering doctors.
Regardless of your religious persuasion and even if you have no religious persuasion at all, call upon whatever your notion of Jesus may be and then answer this question: Do the actions of our Bible-thumpers sound like something Jesus would have promoted or expected? And if your answer is no, then what can we say about these self-righteous Republicanistas?

First, this is NOT a Christian nation. The Republicanistas have that wrong along with all of their other on-going errors. Since these people are supposed to be elected representatives and senators of their respective areas, wouldn’t you think that somewhere along the line they would have read the Constitution of the United States and its amendments? Something about freedom of religion? In fact, wasn’t that one of the primary reasons, to practice whatever religion each chose, for which people chose to come here over the centuries?
Second, these Republicanistas have spent the last 5 years as obstructionists, doing their very worst to ensure that Mr. Obama’s legacy included nothing positive, not domestically or internationally. The results, as the world has seen, have been everything from very difficult to outright disastrous. As Mr. McCullough pointed out, there are many places in the world where thousands of people are dead either because of what they believe in or just because they were there while others were shooting or rocketing or bombing.
My opinion: there are no Palestinians since there is no Palestine. For a couple of thousand years Arabs and Jews have gotten on without trying to kill each other daily. It’s only in the last 65 years that certain minority elements have been raising Hell. And, if some haven’t noticed, the Hell-raising has not only been between the Arabs and the Jews, It’s been between various Islamists, those who believe in the writings of the Koran and the teachings of Mohammed differently from one another. I know what’s wrong with this picture; why don’t the Republicanistas see it? Why can’t the world just have religious freedom and not try to impose one religion on others whether they want it or not? There would doubtless be fewer wars, less killing and maiming, fewer orphans, fewer terrorized homeless people.

What has really bothered me as of late is the response many Republicans have had to the children crossing the border.
I too cannot understand how you can exult the importance of morals and the Bible, but then have many members of your party be so disgusting towards children.
What would be great is to have some Christians, or perhaps a Jews, who truly read and practice the teachings of the Bible, through and through, to run for office. Preface the Bible with every vote, and statement of public policy. You would find someone more like a socialist, than anyone within the Republican party.
