SOTU Dream – Joe Says, “Join Me”

Post 1,048

Ladies and gentlemen, the state of our union is much, much better. We seem to lean toward fracture at times, but still our country keeps moving forward.

Ronald Reagan would be proud to say right now that it’s morning in America again. As former Representative David Jolly said the other day, “More people will go to work tomorrow than ever before. Home ownership is at historic highs. The stock market is breaking records. Retirement accounts are at an all time high. Inflation is coming down and real wages are going up. Joe Biden has led a bipartisan border security package and families have better access to healthcare and to education than they have ever had before.”

We have something really good going on right here in America right now. Join me.

Following the pandemic, we’re doing better than any other first world country in all ways. There still are challenges – there always will be. Let’s tackle them together.

Republicans, you are right. We have a mess at our southern border. The good news is that you have the immigration and border security bill you’ve longed for. It was crafted primarily by Republican Senator James Lankford and it passed overwhelmingly in the Senate. It’s stalled now in the House because the Speaker announced that he won’t bring it to the floor for a vote. He’s stuck it in a drawer because former President Trump told him to do that because he wants to use the border mess as a wedge for his campaign.

Here’s what that means: Mr. Trump has put his ambition ahead of our country – again – and he wants to leave people to suffer. Some are dying on our border. It’s time to stand up and do what’s right – do the very thing Republicans have wanted for so long. Pass that bill and we’ll fix this mess. Join me.

Children, women and men are dying in Ukraine because their brave fighters are running out of ammunition. Congress is dragging feet on this issue because former President Trump told the House not to vote on the funding bill that would allow us to support those brave fighters. You’ll have to answer for yourself why he would want to help Putin in this way, because House inaction is the only obstacle to helping Ukrainians fight for their freedom and stop Putin. Be the heroes. Authorize us to help the Ukrainians. Join me.

The American people have told us over and over, loud and clear that they want their reproductive rights, that they want robust gun safety laws, that they want gerrymandering eliminated, that they abhor book banning, that they believe in and want excellent public schools and so much more. We can do all of that and it’s way past time that we listen to the people and do the job they hired us to do. It’s time to stop spinning and avoiding. Join me.

I’ve said many times and we all agree that a primary duty of any nation’s government is to protect their people and their country. That’s why we’ve been so supportive of Israel, as it seeks to disarm Hamas so that it cannot attack their country again. But the strife and suffering in Gaza is very great and the Israeli military advances have come at a terrible cost – too terrible a cost. That is why I have informed Prime Minister Netanyahu that our aid to Israel will now be defensive only, like Iron Dome to stop Hamas rockets, plus humanitarian aid if it’s needed.

Civilian Palestinian lives are as precious as everyone else’s. Members of the House, pass the legislation authorizing us to send humanitarian aid to Gazans and defensive support to Israel. Join me.

Look, each of us has a question awaiting our answer. We have to decide what kind of America we want, who we are going to be. I know my answer to that question.

I want us to be the strongest democracy in the world, where our leaders are leaders only by the consent of the governed – We The People – majority rule.

I want there to be no would-be strongmen leaders seeking to terrorize, demonize and divide our people or be pals with our international adversaries. I want this to be the United States where our membership in NATO is strong, solid and inseparable, like it is right now.

I want our economy to be strong, where there is opportunity for people who work hard and who play by the rules, like it is right now.

I want our country to be a place that we and our children are proud of, where we thrill to the red, white and blue and where everyone owns a piece of the American dream.

I want everyone around the world to know that we are the United States of America.

There is nothing we cannot do when we do it together. It’s time to come together right now. Join me.

May God bless America and may God protect our troops.

    Again – in our dreams

I am looking forward to tonight’s speech with bated breath. If only President Biden can articulate what you have so eloquently said, I believe that his age will begin to fade as his biggest issue.

    Too old???

That’s oats that have already been through the horse once. I am 85 and I have trouble walking. I sometimes get my words mixed or stop to search for a word. Just because I act and speak a little slower than I used to does not mean I think any slower or simpler or that I am ready to be warehoused somewhere. Give him a chance to begin a real campaign and I think a lot of people will be surprised.

Rant complete. Thanks for what you are doing Jack. Keep on keepin’ on.

You’re 85 and you’re still thinking critically, you’re still engaged and contributing.

      Good on ya, Ed!
