The Fraud They Dumped On Us

Here’s a little motivation to vote. It’s behind today’s crushing lack of affordability, the massive corruption, an illegal forever war that’s killing thousands, the Epstein horrors, the millions who have lost their healthcare coverage, the millions of kids who are going hungry and the other administration and congressional stuff that makes these the times that try men’s and women’s souls. It’s the stuff that torments you, that worries and scares you. This is a largely forgotten or ignored issue, but it’s what has brought us to these times of civil and governmental destruction.

On January 21, 2010 the Supreme Court handed down its decisions in the Citizens United case (link here to the Brennan Center explanation). There is much to criticize about the case and about the decisions. But the most critically important by far is that Chief Justice John Roberts effectively used that case to invent out of thin air an entirely new, separate issue that has been devastating to our country.

In that separate issue 5 justices showed us that they cannot tell the difference between flesh and blood human beings and an inanimate object (corporations). They decided that all of the rights designed in the Constitution to be for actual humans like you should also be given to those inanimate, soulless things. Plus, they couldn’t tell the difference between money (a tangible, physical object – i.e. property) and freedom of speech (a concept, an idea, an intangible thing).

The result was to allow enormous political contributions to be made by corporations and unfathomably wealthy individuals for the purpose of skewing our elections to their own benefit. Not to yours.

Ted Dintersmith has something on that. In his post of October 26, A Trillion Pennies For Your Hate, he wrote,

Last week, midterm political ad spending blew past $10 billion, on its way to $12 billion by Election Day. Way up from the $8.9 billion spent in the 2022 midterms. [It’s t]he first midterm in U.S. history to outspend the prior presidential cycle. Massive sums in Senate races: Texas ($500 million), Ohio ($400 million), and Maine ($200 million, the most per-capita in Senate history). Outside groups [that’s where the corporate “dark money” goes] outspending the candidates by 3x. One individual – Elon Musk – pouring in $366 million. And new to this cycle, $137 million of AI-generated ads – 88% Republican-sponsored.

Let’s look at those preposterous numbers on a more understandable level.

There are 217,223,010 registered voters in the United States. With spending for this midterm election expected to be $12,000,000,000, that’s over $55 trying to buy every vote, including yours.

Worse, there are 968,244 registered voters in Maine and the monster money guys are spending over $200 million to buy Mainers’ votes. That’s over $206 per vote. And that’s just the money we know about.

That is what the John Roberts Court enabled and brought to us with its fabricated Citizens United case. 
And that is what has enabled most of the things that are vexing you right now.

Link to Dintersmith’s chart and note the exponential increase in spending to influence votes in our elections since that 2010 Citizens United decision. Then answer these questions:

1. Should elected officials be able to pick their constituents via gerrymandering, lubricated by big money, or should We The People select our representatives?

2. Should inanimate objects have the same rights as you and be able to control We The People by using their enormous piles of money that you cannot possibly compete with?

3. Should super rich people like Elon Musk be allowed to effectively buy the election results they want?

You know the correct answer to all 3 questions: NO!

Sadly, Big Money is taking away your rights and your freedom.

Why Lay This Out Today?

Because this kind of undermining of our rights, this destruction of our democracy and our very republic are what has been gong on since our so-called “conservatives” on the Court and the cowards in Congress began their poisoning of our country. If we want something different, you and I and a whole lot of our country-men and -women need to clean house.

Fun “Maybe” Fact

I don’t know the source material used for this claim, but here’s a video from Raw America, an outfit claiming to be a people powered news network, saying,

More women have credibly accused Donald Trump of sexual assault than non-citizens have voted in federal elections.

This might be just Pizzagate quality conspiracy stuff, but do some math in your head. With only one possible (not convicted – just possible) non-citizen voting for every 1.6 million votes cast and the very many accusations about Trump’s sexual assaults (Ref: E. Jean Carroll and Trump’s likely Epstein victims), the claim might be accurate. And even if the math proves to be iffy, the points are valid:

  1. We don’t have an illegal voting problem.
  2. We do have a sexual assault problem and it’s infamously and proudly modeled by our leaders.

The moral of this story is simple: We must rid ourselves of these menaces to humanity – the abusers of women and voter fraud liars. VOTE!

OMG! What If You Still Aren’t Convinced To Vote?

This next piece is real and it’s existentially dangerous. It’s about what Trump is prepared to do to invalidate our election results and establish his vain, dementia-addled dictatorship forever.

The last time Trump lost big he sent a violent mob to commit insurrection and murder some of us. There are no limits to what he might do this time. Trump has said so.

What’s Most Important – V2.0

We Are At a Tipping Point

This Führer, his in-house Gruppenführers and his spineless Republican Congress are at the edge of winning a nearly 50 year battle against We The People. The unaccountable billionaires, strongmen, politicians and the puffed-up, permanently duped MAGA followers will have triumphed over the 70% majority of We The People. Conservatives will have defeated us and will have conserved all power, all wealth and all freedoms for themselves, leaving none for us. Call it fascism, authoritarianism, oligarchy (as in post-Soviet Russia) or dictatorship; the repression is the same and the impoverishment of the rest of us will be universal.

Here are just a few of the tools the power crazed use to keep you from having any power at all. Several of these came from a Reuters piece, which I suggest that you read in full.

  1. Extreme gerrymandering,
  2. War crimes to pick your pocket and distract you from losses of your freedom
  3. Illegal deportation that removes – disappears – U.S. citizens and legal residents from this country
  4. Constant lies about non-citizens voting. That actually happens in only 0.00000636% of votes cast. That’s one in about 1.6 million votes.  See this.
  5. DOJ’s massive election monitoring program seeking to strip control of voting from the states
  6. Trump’s demand for a national “citizenship list”
  7. Military at polling places
  8. ICE Gestapo at polling places
  9. Alleging voting fraud or compromised voting machines with no evidence, much less proof
  10. Pressuring election officials to change or cancel results
  11. Seizing ballots and voting equipment
  12. Federal election monitors interfering with voting
  13. Threatening to declare a national emergency and martial law
  14. Federal investigations and phony charges against election officials
  15. Congress refusing to seat election winners – see the next section.
  16. States close polling places and eliminate ballot drop boxes to make it harder for specific demographics to vote

And the granddaddy of them all: kicking vast numbers of U.S. citizens, mainly minority and poor people, off voting rolls for no legitimate reason. It’s done because Republicans can’t get elected if we all vote.

Here’s probably the most dangerous.

The Speaker of the House Has Threatened to Refuse to Seat Democratic Party Election Winners on January 3!

Yes, really.

The spineless Speaker of the House is so deep into Trump’s plot to steal our nation that he’s prepared to mobilize a never attempted coup tactic using arcane House rules. His treachery would work this way:

  1. Speaker of the House Mike Johnson would fire the Clerk of the House and replace him with a Trump/Johnson loyalist (read: toady).
  2. The new clerk would refuse to enter the names of certified Democrats-elect onto the official House roles and would refuse to seat them.
  3. The 120th Congress would convene with only Republican representatives but it would be powerless to take any action.
  4. The Senate would be neutered because it takes both chambers to make a law.
  5. The Republican pseudo-Congress members would prostrate themselves before Trump and allow every Trump criminal and unconstitutional action. They would allow and even encourage the formal ending of democracy. Trump in his dementia would rule in an America dictatorship.

It’s instant Constitutional crisis. Actually, it’s the instant end of the Constitution.

As Amy B. Wang and Alauna Safarpour of the Washington Post reported yesterday, 80% of Americans opposed livestreaming the execution to the public.

A poll by the Washington Post, ABC News, and Ipsos showed that the only demographic polled in which a majority wanted a livestream of the execution was MAGA Republican men, of whom 57% wanted the event livestreamed and 42% were opposed. Veterans, Democrats, non-MAGA Republicans, Independents, and MAGA Republican women all opposed the livestream by overwhelming amounts.

57% of MAGA Republican men want everyone to see the gore and the brutality. These thugs are what we get when Trump is the violence cheerleader, the dementia-addled Führer.

Historical Context

Our fathers, grandfathers and grandmothers risked their lives and nearly half a million of them died to make sure we would never, ever live under the cruel heel of a vampire fascist dictator’s boot. Turns out it’s very hard to make the fascist vampire stay dead.

Once again that monster is somehow rising, sucking the life blood from us and our country. Our fathers and grandparents can no long answer the call, so it falls to us to put a stake in that vampire’s chest – again.

The Threat

Does any of that feel foreboding and, worse, now ordinary? That’s the call to action that’s screaming in your heart.

Perhaps the term fascism feels too extreme to you (but read Fascist. Full Stop). Okay, then call it authoritarianism or dictatorship. They aren’t exactly the same thing, but for the purpose of recognizing the existential threat to all of us, any of those terms will do.

This election, as always, is about how the vast army of ignorant, unaware American citizens feel about their personal finances, and who they decide to blame or credit based entirely on superficial input, such as what their friends are saying on social media.

Sure, you’re discouraged. We’re being hit by American right wing terrorists undermining our country in every way, as they cheat and scheme to take away the America we believe in. They’re taking away our rights and even our lives. But, honestly, there really is some good news, and it isn’t only Marc Elias beating the snot out of Trump in court over and over. This part is more about we Americans and our supposed polarization that so many talk about.

Ambassador Michael McFaul is fresh off a long national book tour for his new book Autocrats vs. Democrats and he wrote about the tour in his post What I Learned on My Book Tour Across America. I haven’t read his book yet and plan to so do soon. What you need to read right now is his “What I Learned” essay. It is full of optimism and reasons to believe in us. We aren’t nearly as fractured as pundits and the few loud extremists and cowardly politicians would have us believe.

Most of all, you’ll learn that we Americans really do still care. Go read his essay.

It Won’t Cost Taxpayers Anything

After Trump’s Pearl Harbor-like sneak attack on the East Wing of the White House he announced his grand plan for a ballroom for his presidency-built-on-spectacle, a structure that would dwarf the actual White House. It is to be a gilded monument to himself which he claimed would cost just $200 million. He told us that funding for it would be supplied by private donations.

Now we find out that – surprise! – it will cost over $900 million and we taxpayers will pay most of that, The cost will likely to grow to well over $1 billion as construction and the Trumpian lies and overreach grow.

Construction has been partially stymied by the courts, with only “underground and security related” construction allowed to continue. You don’t suppose such a claimed purpose might be used by Trump to get around Congress and the courts, do you?

This classic dishonesty is a valuable warning siren for why we need a Democratic Congress to stifle Trump’s “I’m the president and I can do whatever I want” ongoing anti-America tantrum.

Nobody on Air Force 1 other than those riding in the presidential section, not the staff, not Secretary of State Rubio or Treasury Secretary Bessent, nor any member of the press knew that the president was not on that plane. He left you all to be a potential target of an Iranian missile.

Whose Voting Rights?

The President of the United States is begging the Supreme Court to allow him to kill all mail-in ballots in all states where they refused to hand over confidential and protected state voting records for Trump’s SS to purge.

Red states everywhere are in gerrymander overdrive and are purging legitimate minority voters and women from voting rolls at hypersonic speed. I say it’s time to stop pussyfooting around with these weenie methods and drop the voting rights nuclear bomb.

Congress must initiate and pass a law that allows only White (as in: northern European ancestry), Christian male citizens to vote. Enough of pesky Voting Rights and John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Acts! This is a White, Christian country, dedicated to all control and power to be held by men, especially rich men, the way the Founders wrote – somewhere, I think. To Hell with the 13th, 14th, 15th and 19th Amendments! It’s time for us to enshrine our well practiced voting suppression into one supreme law that will supersede whatever laws for the benefit of We The People might still exist.

An Open Letter To Mainers

Oops! You got caught going brainless in public. Don’t tell me you’re practical, no nonsense people with a fine tuned BS meter now that you gave your vote to a guy with a Nazi tattoo.

Get serious. Nobody gets a Nazi tattoo because it’s Thursday. They do it because that hate-fueled ideology speaks to them deeply. The guy almost certainly is a Nazi. He’s the type your grandfather risked his life to stop. Maybe Grandpa lost his life to make sure you’d never have to bow down to a tyrant or live where fear and hatred is your reality. Violent suppression of you and your rights is what Nazis fervently want. And Graham Platner has a Nazi SS tattoo. Did I mention that you voted for him anyway?

You gave your primary vote to a guy who has been credibly accused of brutality against women and now of rape. Either you’ve put your moral compass into a drawer with magnets around it or you aren’t what you claim to be.

WAKE THE F*** UP! (emphasis added because I’m shouting.)

This election is about sending Sen. Susan Collins to the Home For The Spineless and Perpetually Duped. It is not about sending someone with transparently violent and duplicitous innards to speak for you.

Yes, Platner spoke to many of your concerns and did so with an edge, leading you to believe he’d fight for you, but that’s nothing but campaign black ops. If he’s violent, he’s violent everywhere. It’s his nature. You can’t trust him with your spouse, your wallet or your vote because you don’t want someone who violates your values to harm you or your dear ones. And you surely don’t want him to speak for you. There is a solution to this.

Either organize a fresh primary this week – yes, it can be done if everyone stops saying that it can’t and instead takes action – or nominate me. I will move to Maine somewhere near the L.L. Bean flagship store in Freeport. And I’ll bring my Bernese Mountain Dog. He prefers the cooler weather to the sweltering Midwest summer and is a first rate campaign mascot.

I pledge to campaign fiercely against Collins. And  when I represent you in the Senate I promise to campaign for and live by the sensible values you cherish.

So, there’s your solution. Tune out Platner who wants to have his hateful thumb on the scale. Ignore the dopes who want to endlessly debate what to do and who never take action. Pay no heed to the pols who want to use this moment to divide us. And absolutely reject the self-anointed ones who hallucinate that they are sent by God. Just take your moral compass out of that drawer, plug back into your good sense and listen to it.

Clarity From Our Founders

We all know that freedom of speech is now conditional, based solely upon whether Trump likes what you say. The traditional limits on speech, like defamation and yelling “FIRE!” in a crowded theater where there is no fire are quite secondary today.

That is not what the Founders demanded.

  • Tyrannical suppression of freedom
  • is exactly what tyrant King George III enforced on the colonists.
  • It’s a major part of why they rebelled.

So it is with great patriotic courage that I speak boldly of Trump exactly as he spoke of Iranian leaders last week. The original of this child tyrant rant was spewed by Trump. Pronouns were changed here, but the meaning, the defamation, is Trump’s. I just turned it around to rightly point the Trumpian vitriol at him. Here are the slightly modified words from the Washington Post,

He’s scum. He’s a sick person. He leads sick people, and they’re vicious, violent people . . . Far as I’m concerned, it’s just a waste of time dealing with Trump. He’s a liar . . . there’s something wrong with him. He’s cuckoo. As far as I’m concerned, it’s over.

Now that I’ve posted something Trump won’t like, the question is whether the Trump-Miller Gestapo will come for me, declaring me to be among the worst of the worst, simply because I spoke out against Trump. Maybe they’ll ram their black, unmarked Trump-Miller Gestapo SUVs into my car and shoot at me. It’s what they’ve done to countless American citizens, legal residents and more. They use your tax dollars to incarcerate innocent people, doing so in your name and they kill people who are guilty of nothing more than living in America while Brown.

Consider the words of the Declaration of Independence:

We have Petitioned for Redress in the most humble terms: Our repeated Petitions have been answered only by repeated injury. A Prince, whose character is thus marked by every act which may define a Tyrant, is unfit to be the ruler of a free people.

Re-read that last sentence.

November is coming upon us rapidly – see the countdown timer below. It’s high time for each of us to answer the call to duty to ensure the neutering of this substitute King George III tyrant, this king wannabe who is “unfit to be the ruler of a free people.” That is the plain and unmistakable clarity of direction from our Founders. It remains ours to do what is necessary, as they have directed us to do.

Do it while you still can, before Trump declares freedom itself to be illegal, before Trump sabotages everything decent and before he befouls every national symbol and monument.

Where Are We?


POST 1292

David and Goliath Today

In Timothy Snyder’s recent post, Sky Defense: Bringing it Home, focused on the terrible war in Ukraine and the undefinable courage of that Ukrainian David incrementally slaying the evil Goliath of Russia, he wrote,

By resisting Russia, Ukrainians are defending what is perhaps most basic about decent political life: the idea that people should be who they choose to be, not whom they are forced to become.

I’ve told you many times that the Ukrainians are fighting for freedom as a proxy for all freedom loving people, the list of which includes us. They are standing up to tyranny, to domination of the many by the few. The lesson in that is obvious.

We need to be strong and resolute like the Ukrainians. We don’t have an army shooting at us, but some of our tribe have been killed, like Renée Good and Alex Pretti. Some have been manipulated and horribly abused, like Kilmar Armando Ábrego García. Many have died in American torture prisons and Gestapo-like goons patrol our streets looking for people to abuse and imprison for abuses like not looking Aryan.

But it’s as clear as it can be that this is tyranny of the many – that’s us – by the greedy, cruel, self-focused few. Now is the time – it’s always the time – to decide to be David and stand up and fight the Goliath of Trump/MAGA/billionaire evil.

In the Old Testament, Genesis 22:1, we’re told that God tested Abraham, first calling his name. Abraham answered, “I am here” or “Here I am” or “Here am I.” Terrified though he may have been, he answered the call. So it is with us today.

Our country is calling us. It’s time for us to stand and declare, “I am here.”

Because like the Ukrainians, we should be who we choose to be, not who we’re forced by the fascists to become.

One More Thing

Incompetent Tulsi Gabbard held the job of Director of National Intelligence, DNI, quite incompetently for a year and a quarter. Now she’s gone from that post, but there’s a twist.

In Trump’s first administration he got away with appointing incompetents everywhere by avoiding the Senate “advice and consent” protocol. Instead, he fired Cabinet secretaries and appointed incompetent “acting” replacements, thus once again avoiding the rules that apply to everyone else. Perverting the system is a way of life for him.

Likely you heard that Bill Pulte is his latest “acting” DNI. He has no intelligence, military, diplomatic or bureaucratic experience.  In a word, he is incompetent to be DNI. What qualifies him for that post in Trump’s mind (also in Speaker of the House Mike Johnson’s mind, what there is of it) is that Pulte has an unblemished record of being a Trump suck up.

That is what passes for the best and brightest in today’s government.

Campaign Messages

The Democrats have labored at the speed of slugs to examine and explain their losses in the 2024 election and to produce a report. It only took them 18 months to create a professional looking report that states nearly nothing useful and provides nothing of value for the American people. It is in every way a first cousin to the post mortems the Republicans produced after the 2012 Romney loss, the 2016 Trump victory and the 2022 Republican midterm under-performance. In all cases these self-serving documents are short on accountability and lack of any sense of care for We the People. Their campaign messages only supply us with focus group and poll tested bumper sticker talking points. That’s why nobody reads them or cares what the authors have written.

There is near constant talk now about what Democrats should focus on during this campaign season and it’s almost solely zeroed in on them getting votes. That means that essentially it’s about manipulation of We the Voters. There is nearly no focus on what We the People actually need and want. The good news is that I’m here to supply that direction, aided by my able and clear headed assistant, Rabbi Rami, who I have never met.

Rabbi Rami is a retired rabbi now dispensing clarity you can use. I recommend subscribing to his Substack posts. His offering of June 4 will convince you that I’ve given you good advice. It’s titled Don’t Be An Asshole.

You like it already, right?

Consider the title alone and give thought to the President, senators, congressmen/women, state legislators, appointed apparatchiks, heads of governmental bodies and  all others who present themselves as being of the people, as leaders for we who yearn for honest leadership, but who consistently let us down. Consider how many are flagrant in their self-serving attitude, their sole interest being snatching and grabbing power and scamming cash. Each day they display enhanced performative asshole-ness mastery.

Consider the jerks who, after any mass shooting, send “thoughts and prayers” instead of creating gun safety legislation to prevent at least some of the massacres that are otherwise certain to happen. Check the Gun Violence Archive if for some unfathomable reason you have any doubts as to the certainty of our national bleed outs.

And what about the army of waste, fraud and abuse soldiers who are proudly chopping federal spending by taking food from the mouths of our poor children and food and life saving medicine from desperate people in need of what we can provide cheaply, such that now millions of them have died?

Then there are the WF&A warriors saving money by cutting healthcare from millions of Americans. And the brain damaged people refusing to provide aid to Ukraine as that country fights for freedom everywhere. And the cretins bombing small boats in the Caribbean without the slightest evidence of wrongdoing or effort toward due process.  And they’re locking up random people using a Gestapo-like army of thugs, as though their stupid and cruel flexing of military and police power somehow makes us better, stronger, safer or more enviable. If you think any of that asshole cruelty helps us, you need a reality re-set.

I say these people are assholes and I know you agree with me, because Congress now sports an approval rating of 10%, with 86% of Americans disapproving of the job Congress is doing. That means that you and I think these guys are assholes in the first degree, differentiated not at all from fetid, stinking pond scum.

What if candidates for office were to focus on us and our needs, instead of their own selfish cravings? What if they actually were to care that people are suffering terribly and want to do something about it? What if they somehow were to recognize that the only voters who care about their welfare are their mothers and that the rest of us think they should instead care about our welfare?

Think about all that and more, but first link through to Rabbi Rami’s post and give serious consideration to his report. This stuff is really simple and should be easy to adopt. If you can’t find candidates who can do what Rami recommends, go run for office yourself. Get in the game and rid us of assholes before they steal this entire country from us.

You Need To See This

See It Now

Most of us are primarily visual creatures which can lead to missing important things that we can’t put our eyeballs on, so let’s start with something that is visual.

Here’s a pair of pictures I found in Steve Schmidt’s post of June 1 of the dignified before and the dreadful now of the White House.

Here is how Schmidt described Trump in this context:

He has debased the People’s House with the aesthetic sensibilities of a pimp turned bankrupt casino operator and reality television performer, who confuses excess for greatness and spectacle for dignity.

The classically noble East Wing is gone. Jackie Kennedy’s beautiful rose garden is gone. Instead of the grand sweep of the White House lawn there is a slab of pavement and a structure for crude and violent cage matches that goes far beyond offensively stupid. We see all that.

There is tasteless gold leaf all over the Oval Office. There is a tasteless, useless, ostentatious ballroom being built to dwarf and debase the greatest symbol of freedom and democracy in the world. All dignity is gone.

We see all that and more. It’s visual. But what about the parts of America that are being desecrated and for which there is no specific visual that alarms us to the harm being done?

Can’t See It Quite as Well

Like the wanton cruelty of ICE thugs, those violence dispensers, rounding up our citizens and immigrants like cattle. We see that much of their savagery, but we don’t see the brutality done to people inside those hideous, for profit prisons.

Like the self-debasement of the Department of Justice.

Like the gutting of our national security agencies that have kept us safe.

Like the stripping and contamination of our public healthcare system and of our food safety system, putting every one of us in danger.

Like the incalculable brutality done to our moral compass.

Those aren’t as visual but they are here and abasing us and our nation nonetheless. They are as real as Trump’s galactically stupid war, which, again, we don’t see but is as damaging to us as anything we do see. It’s up to us to keep them in focus and to be actively on the right side of all those issues.

We are easily distracted from what’s important by spectacle, but there are still over a thousand women who were once little girls who were raped and trafficked and scarred for life and for whom there is scant justice. Trump was in the thick of the criminality, but there are few visuals and scant attention given to that sordid, illegal pit of wanton brutality. So far Trump’s cover up and his manipulated, spineless sycophantic Department of Justice has protected him and his distracting spectacles have blinded the eyes of most of us.

Trump has done over 3,700 insider stock trades just this year (about 25 per day) and has made billions from his soon-to-be-worthless crypto coin scams and his influence peddling grift. He’s caused major companies to cower and obey and has done permanent damage to the right of free speech. The only visual we have of that is the absence of Steven Colbert from late night television. But the harm is as debilitating as anything we can lay our eyes on.

The point is that there is an endless supply of harm being done to America, to our place of leadership in the world, to We The People and and to this “last, best hope of Earth.” Some is easy to see and some is much more difficult to eyeball and comprehend, but it’s no less awful than a deeply offensive gladiatorial cage match on the White House lawn.

What We Must See

You and I need to see all of it, because this violence to our values and our to our trust is systematically under assault. And at root, all we have to keep us strong, what we can cling to in this dangerous and threatening sea, is our invisible trust in one another.

The time for action is NOW!

That Kind Of Country


POST 1289

    • We have the power to shape the civilization that we want. But we need your will, your labor, your hearts, if we are to build that kind of society.

  • announcing the Great Society program

Do you want “that kind of society”? Because if you want rule by thugs; if you want people snatched off our streets by unidentified brutes, this without regard for the rule of law, without an arrest warrant, without representation, without any of the things guaranteed by our Constitution, then “that kid of society” isn’t on your radar. Only survival of the cruelest is within your view. If that’s what you want, you don’t have to lift a finger.

But you aren’t like that.

Don’t misunderstand. I was no fan of Lyndon Johnson. Once I finished college he wanted to ship me off to Viet Nam to kill and/or be killed in his illegal, unwinnable, vanity project war. No, thank you. But he wasn’t wrong about everything. He was right about the Civil Rights Act and the Voting Rights Act. And he was right about making this a better, aspirationally Great Society – “that kind of society.”

And he was right, that “we need your will, your labor, your hearts.” So, I have an idea.

So many of us are disgusted by what we see going on, but we don’t know what to do to stop it, to reverse course back the country we believe in. We’re inundated with candidates and organizations pleading for our donations and, of course, we can help that way. Beyond that, what can you do? What action can you take? Who can give you the direction you need? I have a little idea for that.

Start with your answer to this question: What do you care about? I mean really care about. Gun safety? Illegal wars? The impossible challenge of having adequate supplies for life, like food, medical care and gas to get to work. Like elected officials lying to you, cheating you, cheating your country and more.

Name for yourself the key issue you have passion about.

Now, here’s the action step. Contact an organization the focuses on your key issue and ask them how you can help, beyond throwing some money their way. Go ahead. Make the call. Then  bring “your will, your labor, your heart”. Get up and get out to overwhelm the usurpers this November.
